EpiPen Recall

MYLAN SPECIALITIES RECALLS EPIPENS

This week, Mylan Specialities expanded a recall for select lots of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr auto-injectors. The recall follows reports of “failure to activate the device due to a potential defect in a supplier component. The potential defect could make the device difficult to activate in an emergency and have significant health consequences for a patient experiencing a life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).”

Medford School Nurses have been informed about the recall and asked to check all student EpiPen and EpiPen Junior auto-injectors that are kept at school. School Nurses will contact families individually if their child’s auto-injector is on the recall list. Parents are advised to check all auto-injectors that are kept at home for their child.

Consumers may receive either EpiPen Auto-Injector or the authorized generic for EpiPen Auto-Injector at the pharmacy as a replacement based on availability. Mylan Specialities is asking patients to keep their existing product until their replacement product can be secured.
